Fibercord’s high performance multi-filament Polyamide (Nylon) 6.6 yarns combine outstanding tenacity and dimensional stability with excellent fatigue resistance and the capability to form strong and durable bonds with the rubber compounds in which they are embedded . Our high tenacity multi-filament Nylon yarns are specially formulated for the tire and rubber reinforcement industry. Fibercord’s high-tenacity multi-filament nylon yarns are manufactured from polyamide 66 homopolymers with antioxidant packages that protect them from thermal oxidative degradation to which they are exposed in their end-uses.
Optimal properties are achieved in production through a sequence of in-line solid phase polymerization, melting, spinning, quenching, stretching and annealing operations. This in-line continuous processing is the best possible to guarantee for consistent high quality.
All yarns are protected from damage during processing by state-of-the-art finishes and process conditions. Bundle cohesion is ensured by filament intermingling (interlace) setting industry standards of yarn processability and mechanical quality.
Mechanical quality and processability of our yarns set industry standards. They allow high yield conversion into fatigue resistant, high tensile cords with properties that can be tuned over an unusually wide range simply by varying processing conditions.
Laboratory Test
The physical properties of high tenacity nylon yarns are affected by temperature and humidity Fibercord’ laboratory is air conditioned and controls those conditions for the preparation of testing samples in accordance with the specific norms.
For all tests mentioned below, other than shrinkage, samples are pre-twisted and conditioned.
Linear density (Dtex)
Dtex (decitex) is the most common unit to express the linear density, and it constitutes the weight in grams of 10.000 meters of yarn. Other units expressing the linear density are the Tex and the denier which indicate the weight of 1.000 and 9.000 meters, respectively.
Tensile Tests
InstronTM equipment is used in the following tensile tests
Tenacity (cN/Tex)
Tenacity is expressed in cN/Tex and it is the breaking strength divided by the sample’s linear density
Breaking Strength (N)
Breaking Strength is the maximum force measured by the InstronTM equipment to break the sample and it is expressed in Newton.
Elongation at break (%)
Elongation at break is the increase of the length expressed as a percentage compared to sample’s initial length.
Thermal tests
Shrinkage (%)
According to ASTM standards, shrinkage test is performed at 177 °C for 2 min with a load of 0.045 g/dtex or 0.05 g/dtex. Shrinkage measures the length change of the sample after a specified exposure to heat and it is expressed as a percentage compared to sample’s initial length. Everything is done in accordance with the ASTM standards. Fibercord’s laboratory uses TestriteTM equipment for the shrinkage test.
Test temperature can be modified based on customer´s curing temperature .
Shrinkage Force (N)
Shrinkage force constitutes the load required to prevent the cord from shrinking at 177 °C test temperature after 2 min exposure. It is expressed in Newton. Fibercord’s laboratory uses TestriteTM equipment for the shrinkage force test.
